Campaign Story
* Typical cost of capstone projects (including registrations, travel and supplies) is about $1200.
* I am trying to raise $600 as family and school will cover the rest.
Goals for My Fundraiser:
Supporting my capstone project
*** I plan to pursue the project though participation in TSA activities like competitions and community service. ***
The Technology Student Association (TSA) is a national Career and Technical Student Organization (CTSO) that helps students explore STEM through hands-on projects, competitions, and leadership opportunities.
What is ‘Math Mentoring Gaming Platform’
Create an educational video game platform that serves as both a math learning tool and an advocacy medium for mental health. The platform will feature modular lessons, interactive challenges, and in-game analytics to track progress and impact.
Why I am pursuing this project (My why)
- I am a ‘Stylish Thinker’ personality type person with strong ‘advocate’ business potential.
- I’m super into making educational video games because I think they’re a cool way to help improve mental health and math education. I’m really good at it too! So, I’ve decided to work on a project where I’ll be designing these games to make a positive difference..
My plan of action: Competitions and Activities
Career Technical Student Organizations (CTSOs) to join:
Technology Student Association (TSA) – TSA offers a platform for technology-focused competitions and projects, promoting hands-on experience in project planning, coding, and technical innovation. It fits perfectly with the student’s passion for educational gaming and helps develop the technical and administrative skills necessary for their project.
Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) – FBLA focuses on developing leadership and business management skills including administration and data analysis. Its structured competitions and project-based learning are ideal for boosting the student’s strengths in following procedures and analytical tasks.
Competitions
This introductory competition fits as it builds coding, algorithm design, and project management skills critical for developing a Math Mentoring Gaming Platform.
FBLA – Website Coding & Development
This introductory competition focuses on backend development and website functionality which are essential for creating a user-friendly online platform for math mentoring and gaming.
This introductory TSA competition reinforces the fundamental coding skills and algorithmic thinking necessary for refining the platform’s interactive gaming features.
As an advanced competition, it allows the student to merge creativity with technical skills, directly aligning with the development of a gaming platform that mentors math concepts through simulation.
Community Service:
Community Math Mentoring Workshop
Why it fits: This activity leverages the skills gained in competitions to mentor younger students in math concepts using interactive techniques and gaming elements, aligning with the passion project’s focus.
Implementation: Organize weekly workshops in a local community center in zip code 30058 during the Spring semester, including hands-on math games and mentoring sessions, with collaboration from local educators.
Skills Development: Mentorship, communication, educational planning, community engagement
